The death took place on Saturday at Wanganui Hospital of Mr Geo. Paul, of Marton. Deceased, who was Bts years of age, was one of the few remaining Crimean veterans, hvaing taken an active part in the fall of Sebastopol. Mr Fred Paul, of Marton Junction, is a son, and Mesdames Archibald (Marton). Friend (Palmerston N.), and Eellaruore (Wellington) are sisters. Three young men on a motor cycle, tonri ig through from Wairarapa, stopped suddenly in Marton yesterday. Two of them were good natnredly endeavouring to Initiate the other into the control of the machine in order that he might proceed further alone. For a while the coaching process was successful, but something went wrong with the works and the machine crashed into a verandah poet opposite the Post Office, The post will have to he replaced, and repairs to the bicycle wore necessary before they could proceed. Not ko long ago the prices of draught horses dropped very low in the grain growing districts of Canterbury, and it was thought by many.farmers that teams would practically be replaced by tractor-. However, tractors have been tried on many farms and apparently found wanting and once more the draught horse is in popular favour. At a recent sale of Clydesdales at Belfast mares realised from 28 guineas to 195 guineas, stallions from 22 guineas for colts to 125 guineas for older horses and fiiies from 20 guineas to 172 guineas.
