GREATFORD-LEVIN RAILWAY.

At a special meeting of Levin Borough Council on Thursday the message from Foxton Borough Council asking for representatives to be appointed to a meeting of local bodies to discuss the above subject was considered, and the Council supported the proposal, In introducing the subject the Mayor said : —The matter would be dealt with in an authorisation bill early in the coming session of Parliament, and in view of the largo expenditure of public money that would be involved in such an undertaking it was considered that the Government should approach the matter from the national standpoint and construct the Levin-Foxton Greatford deviation, which would confer a benefit on the whole of the .North Island by reducing the travelling, time on the Auckland-Wellington journey. A good deal of data had been collected during the sitting of the former Commission which had favoured the deviation, and this was no doubt still available. It was estimated then that the deviation would reduce the Main Trunk journey by one hour, which was an important matter these days. , MR NEWMAN’S ACTIVE SUP PORT. I have much pleasure in advising Mr Massey as requested, and yon can depend upon my best support, both in and oat of Parliament.” MR FIELD’S SUPPORT. The Mayor of Levin has already communicated with Mr' W H Field, M.P. for the district, on the subject, and is assured by the latter that Parliament will have an open mind on the matter, and that he will do his best to forward the proposal.
