It is reliably stated, says the Napier Telegraph, that the price of sugar will be raised in the immediate future from £23 los per ton ’to £43 15s. At the present time sugar far table purposes is being retailed in Australia at sis pence per pound, and this price is expected to rale in New Zealand at an earlj T date. The boxes of Japanese safety matches which are the only form of match at present on sale are provocative of much bad language. They remind one cf the remark made by a Maori who was sledging firewood out of the hash by a verv bad track. Asked if the work was not very troublesome he remarked bjiefly "Bush full of swear” The Japanese match boxes are certainly "full of as wear. ”
