PRICE OF PATROL.

REASON FOR INCREASED’ PRICES. Par Press Association "Wellington, June 25 The President of the Board of Trade, Hon Lee, informed a reporter to-day that in view of complaints made lately regarding the supply and price of pertol, he had obtained a report from the Board of Trade as to the position. In respect of price, although the retail price of benzine was governed by Order-in-Oouncil published on February 12th last, the Board of Trade exercised its powers under the petrol regulations of 1918 to allow increase of price when special conditions justified such action. Documents in connection with each shipment arriving in the Dominion are submitted to the Board by importers, and after fully checking the sime, prices are adjusted generally. With cargoes arriving direct at, Wellington, the Board has found it necessary to transfer stocks from other ports, and freight and handling charges have had to be allowed for. Recently a shipment was obtained from Auckland to meet the local shortage, and the Board is now arranging for further supplies, probably from Christchurch, to tide Wellington requirments over until the arrival of a direct shipment. Hon Lee said he would like to make the facts public, in view of complaints being received as to the increased price charged to the public.
