The Labour Council passed a resolution requesting Government to take over the Broken Hill mines and grant the increased wages and shorter hours demanded by the men. The Lithgow pron works strike has been settled and work resumed. Melbourne, June 25
The Higgins Compulsory Conference regarding the gas strike failed, neither side being willing to give way on the question of wages, the men demanding 14s and the employers "’adhering to 13s. The latter also deiared that this offer will be withdrawn after Tuesday and the matter will then be fought out in the Arbitration Court.
