INTER-COLLEGIATE MATCH. i !TE AUTE (14) v WANGANUI 8) I There was a large attendance on the Palmerston North Show ground j yesterday, whan the annual game ' between Wanganui Collegiate School i and Te Ante was plajed. The j weather conditions were all again at a good exhibition of the game, the j ground being soft anJ was soon ; worked into n sticky mud. The first spell was confined mostly to forward work, in which department Te Ante had the advantage. The spell ended with honours <wen —3 all—Peina scoring lor Te Aute aud Young for Wanganui. Owing to the state of the ground in the second spell the game was little less than a rnud scramble, although at time 3 there were some fine combined efforts by both sets of br iks. Wanganui drew first blood in this spell, iVscDonell scoring after a fine bit of play by the Wanganui backs. Collier converted. From the kick off the Te Aute forawrds worked their way to Wanganui's territory and after a hard forward struggle on the line Walker scored. Pine conveiting. With the scores 8 all play became very willing and after a good for - 1 ward,rash McPherson scored for Te Aute." After this the Wanganui backs were on the defensive most of the time, and but for the strong defence Te Aute would have been over several times. Just near the end of the game Ta Aute forwards again rushed play on to Wanganui's ilne, where PiDe scored, the game ending Te Aute .... 14 Wanganui .... 8 RANGITIKEI SUB-UNION NORTH v SOUTH. DRAWN GAME. Teams representing North (Hunterville and Rata) and South (Marton and Bulls) met on Marton Park yesterday afternoon, but owing to the muddy state of the großUd all prospects of a good game were spoilt, the play after the first ten minutes being a mud seramfole. Play opened with the South forwards attacking, but Bottrell saved with good line kick. From the line J *U South again forced play and h,.ji a long kick G Blair followed/' up fast andscored a good try. T Paranibi coaverted. South ... 5 North 0

From the kick off play lingered in midfieldi till the South forwards again took the hall at their toe and rushing play over North's line T Paranihi scored, hut failed with the kick. From a scrum the North backs started a passing rash which dangerous, but Payne relieved with a good line kick. The North team were now starting to take a hand in matters, but the defence was too sood. From a mark in front of goal J Hartley had a shot, but the ball just missed. The remainder of the spell was fairly even, play ending with the South forwards attacking, the score remaining South .... S North .... 0 In the second half there was some good line kicking in which Payne was prominent. The kick off saw the North forwards on the attack, hut a good line kick relieved. North came again and after hard forward play on the line South forced. From the kick off North again returned to the attack, but G Thompson saved well. Play was even for & wfeiie until R Hegglun broko away aand transferred to Oollier who carried play on to North's liae, where he

passed to Blair, but the whistle blew for a threw forward and stopped a sure try. On commencing play was np and down field, North having the advantage. From a freo kick in front of goal J Hartley had another kick and managed to pilot the ball between the posts South .... S North .... 3 Immediately on resuming North forwards returned play to South's line and from a piece of loose play Moßae dived across. J Hartley converted South .... 8 North S With the scores even, play became willing, and although North had the best of matters Sill the end the de- j fence and good line kicking of the South team kept thorn from scoring.
