The Australian Press Association Agency telegraphed Archbishep Mannix asking him for his version of the Ventura incident. Dr. Mannix replied • "The whole affair is a foolish story baaed on a misunderstanding. My first act, witnessed by thousands on setting foot on American soil at San Francisco, was to salute the American flag and stand uncovered daring the playing of th e American National Anthem. I have repeated tbi3 act on several public occasions since my arrival in New York."
