GUNN EXECUTED.
Per Press Association. Wellington, June 21 A statement made by Dennis Gunn reached Wellington this atfernoon, and a meeting of Cabinet was called almost immediately to consider what ste s, if any, should be taken concerning it. The decision, as announced by the PrimejMinister after the meeting, was as follows: Cabinet has fully considered the statement made by Gunn, and has come to the conclusion that there is nothing to warrant it in altering the decision already arrived at. Nothing is being divulged as to the contents of Gnnn's statements. As the date fixed. is to-morrow morning,* the decision means that Gunn will be hanged forthwith. NO CONFESSION MADE. sssxtms Auckland, Jnne 22 Dennis Gunn was executed in Mount Eden Gaol at 8 o'clock. Before leaving his cell prisoner sent word to Detective Cummings, who conducted the police prosecution, that he bore no ill will. Otherwise Gunn made no statement except that when returning the to the priest, who administered the last rites on the scaffold, he said: "Give that to my poor mother, and say goodbye." His reply to the Sheriff's query before the rope was adjusted was: "I am prepared to meet my God and my Creator." The execution was witnessed by about a dozen people, mostly officials. The execution was speedy and without incident.
