OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of Oroaa County Council was held in its Feilding Chambers yesterday. Present: Crs. Posrca (in the chair), Morrison. McElroy, Greenhow and Vincent. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mariawatu Gorge Board of Control, forwarding statement of proposed expenditure for eurrent year.—Received Fr6m Bav of Islands County Council, forwarding copy of resolutions dealing with payment of rates by Maoris, and suggesting local bodies he given full power to enforce payment.—Supported, From Stratford Borough Council, suggesting that Government be asked to make Saturday afternoon the universal halt-holiday throughout the Dominiou.—Supported. From Pahiatua Connty Council, asking Council's assistance in having included in "The Housing Act, 1919," provision for purchase of land on which to erect dwellings.—Supported. From Hawera Borough Council, suggesting that Government be asked to remove the duty on children's footwear. —Received. From Feilding Borough electrical engineer, suggesting that several adjacent local bodies combine and form one power district under the "Electric Power Boards Act, 1918." From headmaster District High School, forwarding a publication dealing with the country child's educational needs, ana asking Council's assistance in securing better conditions in tie future. TREASURER'S REPORT. Amount of general rates collected for 1920-21, £446 149 2d. ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mangaone Riding—No work has been done in this Riding, but a start should be ma ie at gravelling Feild-ing-Halcombe Road about the middle of this month. Rangitawa Riding—The work of gravelling various roads about Halcombe has been considerably delayed by wet weather. The road into Pitcher's pit has been formed and the pit opened up Tiie piece of road connecting with Halcombß-Kakariki road has also been formed Raumanga Riding—Three old wooden culverts ou Wilson's Line have been replaced with concrete pipes The roadmen have been engaged for greater part of their time attending to watertables and trimming Waituna and Makino roada

Makino Riding—The work of gravelling and grading Makino Road has been completed, and this road is now in good order. Some gravel repairs were effected to Reid's Line, and the work of scarifying and rolling Kimbolton Road is now i n progress. Tdouui Riding—The gravelling o f Valley Road has oeen completed, and repairs effected to Midland Road. The men are now at work putting in the concrete pipe culverts on Taonui Road North. Bunny-thorpe-Ashhurst, Bunnythorpe and Stony Creek Roads and Reid's Line have been trimmed with grader. Hiwinui Riding—The work of widening Grove R~ad has been considerably delayed by wet weather. All heavy work with exception of one filling has been completed. Otangaki Riding—The teams have been at work travelling Ulysses' Road and 27 9 yards have been delivered. Some maintenance gravel has been carted on Asbharst streets. Report adopted. THE RATE ROLL. The following alterations were made in the rate roll:—Jas.
