FORGED BANK NOTES.

Per Press Association. ' Christchurch, March 18. Forged British bank notes are again in circulation in New Zealand. Instructions to commercial houses been sent out this week by the Christchurch branch of one bank that the name of any person depositing British and foreign notes should ' be endorsed on the notes for identification purposes in any case of irregularities. A reporter was informed that spurious Bank of England notes have a blurred appearance, with slightly wider numbers and a crude representation of Britannia. Surplus Treasury notes are mostly of the second issue, red 10s, and black £l. The former are a good imitation and difficult to detect. The £1 notes are all numbered*W-30, impressed with a watermark, and the King’s head has a Czarlike appearance. In addition the letter f»N” is upside down in the word “one” of the inscription. Forgeries of present issue are blurred, and generally show a crude King’s head and House of Parliament.
