SWIMMING, SPORTS.

MARTON DISTRIOI HIGH SCHOOL. Tho pupils of 'this school who on Wednesday distinguished themselves by winning the Rangitikei School Athletic Challenge Shield, yesterday in Marton Baths gave a splendid exhibition of their swimming powers. It is to be regretted there was not a larger attendance of the public, as the competitions indicate that the been well trained, and on their showing yesterday promise to be as successful in aquatic events as they are in athletics. The most interesting event was the life saving competition, the first of its kind held by the school. The pupils have not been in training very long, and their display was particularly pleasing as it was good. The honour of winning the first competition fell to Tommy Woodham, and Miss E Cullen. The former wins a gold medal and the latter a rose bowl, both presented by Mr W «3 McOcskery. Mrs F J Wilson also donated trophies for the boys and girls’ championship, but these have not yet been decided. The headmaster, Mr de Berry, and his assistants should be proud of the progress the boys and girls have made. At the conclusion of the sports the children heartily cheered the donors of prizes and the visitors. Results : 25 Yards Bovs’ Championship : E Davenport 1.
