In the House of Commons, replying to a series of questions in reference to the recent riots at Fiji, Mr Amery stated that 128 men and 14 women had been convicted of riotous behaviour and 56 others were committed or were on remand, on charges of wrecking bridges, etc. An armed guard of 50 men was, sent from New Zealand to assist in the maintenance of order, but did not fire on anybody, nor caused casualties. The Governor had appointed a Commission to investigate the question of cost of living aod wages for Indians.
