Received March 16, 10 a.m. London, March 15 The Daily Telegraph states that Carpentier, before sailing for America, stated that he had deposited £IOOO with Cochran. He said • ‘The purse was generous, and it wonld be ridiculous to hold out for another offer. The war caused me to lost £40,000, but the victory over Beckett enabled me to get £50,000. If I meet Dempsey I shall nave a fortune of £IOO,OOO in all, so X desire to retire. ”
