Official estimates issued indicate that the national expenditure for the year 1920-31 is estimated at 1187 millions, of which civil services ab- | sorb 557 millions, interest on j national debt 400 millions, the Army 125 millions, the Navy 64 millions, the Air Force 21 millions, as comj pared with a total of 208 millions j submitted in the spring of 1914, of I which civil services absorbed 92 millions, national debt services 36 millions, Army 39, and the Navy 51. The revised Naval bstimates for 1919-20 show a gross expenditure of 97 millions. The a mount assigned to new construction is £4,000,000, but this is entirely for the completion of vessels laid down during war time. Contributions from India and the Dominions, excluding New,Zealand, which is still discussing the matter, total £215,000.
