HIS AMBITION. Eric, aged eight, announced that he was going to America when he was a bit bigger., “You want to be a cowboy, I suppose?’' inquired uncle, "I don’t,’’was the emphatic answer. “I’m going to be a chewing-gum king.” WONDERFUL FORESIGHT He was obliged to stop overnight at a small country hotel. He was shown to his room by the one boy of the place. “: ; “I’m glad there’s an escape here in case of fire,” he commented, as he surveyed the room. ’“But w,hat’s the idea of putting a prayer-book in the room so prominently?” “That,” explaimed the boy, ‘‘is intended for use in case the fire is too far advanneed for you to make your escape, sir. ”
