Received March 11, noon Washington, March 9 In a letter to Senator Hitchcock President Wilson reiterated his unqualified opposition to the attempt by the United States to evade its obligation under Article Ten. There were some Senators however who professed to road in Wilson’s letter, warrant for continuing their efforts to arrange a comprbmise on the Article, hence the negotiations which have been going on between the Republicans and the Democrats are continuing. Commenting on the letter,. Senator Lodge said he aid not know whether the letter would make any difference. ' In the Senate Senator Hitchcock said the President pointed out that there was no difference between having no League and attempting to nullify it with reservations, therefore he thought it was better to stay out gracefully, rather than enter disgracefully.
