Prince Joachim Albrecht of Prussia, was a leading figure in scandalous attack on a French officer, his wife and a civilian at the Hotel Adlon, A gang of idle wealthy German aristocracy, under the influence of drink, demanded “Deutschland Über Alles” from the orchestra, and pelted the French for refusing to rise. All were injured before they were able to withdraw with the assistance of a bodyguard of waiters. The French officer was a member of the Military Mission staying at the Adlon. The matter will be taken up diplomatically. The gang had been obnoxiously visiting restaurants, and demanding patriotic music. The visit to the Adlon was a deliberate provocation, as it is the principal resort of foreigners. The manager said the waiters and cooks who resented Joachim’s monarchist activities had announced that they would strike if he was allowed to enter, and Joachim departed after in - indulging bad language. It appears that a Prince Hohenlohe participated in the disturbance and took off his shoe and belaboured a Frenchman. The Socialist newspapers angrily denounce the drunken rowdies, saying the people will be obliged to pay lor their escapades Even the- Conservative press deplores the regrettable exhibition.
