THE FALL IN FREIGHTS.
United Press Association —By Elec trie Telegraph —Copyright. Received March 8, 1 p.m. London, March 3. The newspapers are discussing the heavy fail in North Atlantic freights. It is stated Government hopes to secure all the space it requires after the eud of March below the present agreed rate of 42s 6d per ton. Shipping circles opine that this 1 is very doubtful owing to the increase of all working expenses. Somewhat similar conditions prevail for the Eastern trade, where the rates are comparatively low'. Shipping men think there, is no prospect of early reduction of freights to Australia, but on the contrary a further advance was recently contemplated and Mr Larkin states that the existing Commonwealth Line alone prevented it being carried into effect.
