LICENSING CASES.
New Plymouth, March 4. . At the Magistrate's Court to-day William G Emeny, licensee of the Royal Hotel, was charged with having unlawfully exposed liquor for sale during a time when his premises were required to he closed. Ebenezer Wooldridge, Frederick O Fox, and William Fitzgerald were charged with having been illegally on the premises after hours. Pleas of not guilty were entered. It was contended that there was no drinking, and that the men were guests of the licensee and merely conversing. Magistrate Bailey said it appeared to him that if a licensee took men into the bar and had it lighted up he was exposing liquor. Decision was reserved. , . „ Four men, John F Eva, John H Kain, Allan Campbell, and James A Hawden, did not appear to answer a charge of having been unlawfully on licensed premises—the Breakwater Hotel—on Sunday, February Bth. A fine of £2 and costs 7a was inflicted in each case.
