NEWSPRINT SUPPLIES.

The following letter just received from our paper merchants will indicate how all the newspapers are being affected by the shortage of printing paper;— “Dear Sirs, —Paper reports from the various manufacturing centres are almost as bad as they can be, and we find it practically impossible to place a line of any size. The tew mills that are still open to accept business will only do so on the basis of ‘market price at time of shipment.’ Stocks held by the wholesalers are now in ver}' small compass and this, with the improbability or relief for a very considerable period, has considerably hardened prices. You have received advice regarding new mill agencies arranged for by our Managing Director whilst in America, and we are led to believe that some of these will shortly bo in a position to ship small quantities of paper, hut we will keep you advised from time to time as to possibilities of obtaining supplies from these sources. Doth Dntish and Scandinavian mills are reluctant to take business except at rates very much in excess of late quotations, and even .-then, they are onlv prepared to do so provided that the utmost latitude is given them for delivery: advising that they are literally “snowed up’ - with orders, which will take them fully 13 mouths to clear. We enclose a list of our stock, but advise that only small quantities are held, and that we are uuabli to book more than a few reams of any one line. 11
