United Press Association — By Elec trie Telegraph Copyright.

Received Feb 13, 13.40 p.m. Melbourne, Feb 13,

Justice Ewing has resumed the Darwin Inquiry. Dr Gilrnth was examined. Justice Ewing asked Dr Gilrnth if he was aware that it had been sworn that while he was at Darwin he was part owner ofthe Axrino lease? Gilrnth replied “Yes; it was a claim, not a lease.’ Repliyng to further questions, Gilrnth said a grant was made by him to Judge Bevan and a man named Hope, He told Bevan that he would take a third share. He admitted that he had approved the grant to Hope without sufficient authority. Justice Ewing asked “Knowing that Hope was not the real owner yon advanced money to develop the grant to half your own and Bevan s mining venture?” . , • Gilrnth replied “That la what it amounts to,” Justice Ewing pointed out that Bevan had sworn that none of the advances to Hope were ever paid back to Government, and that by, the merest chance he discovered that Gilrnth and Bevan were interested in the venture. Gilrnth replied that any one could have told Bevan was in it,but probably no one knew that he himself was in it. Gilrnth denied that he was part owner of the Daly Mine but he advanced some money in it and later made himself responsible for half of any loss that might be incurred. He undertook this responsibility without receiving any interest in the mine. He was not aware that Sevan’s and Hope’s hanking account was opened by money paid by himself. Gilrnth admitted granting a lease of 3000 acres to a man named Palmer but he was not a partner of Palmer.
