BOXING.

UREN AND MEEKIN. Per Press Association Dunedin, Feb 12. A boxing competition between Tommy Uren (champion of Australia) and Dave Meekin (champion of the Orient) took place to-night. The competitou was of 15 threeminute rounds for a purse of £4oo— to the winner and £l7O to the loser. It was held under the auspices of the Otago Boxing Association. The contest proved rather disappointing from the spectators’ point of view In the third round Meekin went down for nine seconds to a couple of short arm jolts to tne jaw. He was obviously dazed, and went down again, and the referee stopped the fight and gave the verdict to Dren.

CONTEST AT GISBORNE. Gisborne, Feb 12. A 15-ronnd professonal boxing contest, between Tom Heeney (Gisborne) and W. Bartlett (Murchison) took place to-night. Bartlett quitted after the eighth round, declaring that Heeney was too strong, and tfafti, he (Bartlett) would have no chance of success. The display was not one-sided, but fairly tame.
