MARTON, WEDNESDAY. r?wvir» “SOCIETY FOR SALE.” William Desmond is seen at his best in “Society For Sale” showing at Everybody’s to morrow night. It is a bright and human story of a shopgirl suddenly rich wishing for society and an aristocrat whose sole possession is an ancient name. The girl, Gloria Swanson, borrows the impoverished gentleman to work her way into society, and pays well for the privilege of using his as a fiance. As the representative of the ancient name Bill Desmond gives a portrayal which will be particularly attractive to New Zealanders who have seen him in similar parts on the stage. Gloria Swanson does some of her best work as the shopgirl, and has plenty of scope to prove her ability. The story is well sustained and has much entertaining power. Society customs and frocks receive plenty of attention. The programme is completed with the latest Budget and a two reel Keystone Comedy entitled “The ice ■ man’s Bride, ”
