MANGAWEKA NOTES.

A meeting of the Athletic Club was held cn Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance and Mr R. J. Williamson occupied the chair. The general committee was strengthened by the addition of several members. A sub-committee was appointed to draft a programme and report to a full meeting, and another committee was elected to visit the two grounds and report as to which they considered the more suitable for the sports meeting to be held in January. The tea rooms on Thursday were run by the lady msmbeis of the Tennis Club, This resort proved to be as popular as ever and the effort was fruitful to the extent of fully ten pounds. A meeting of the general committee of the Red Cross Society was held on Thursday afternoon. Mr D. Munro presided and ten members were present. It was practically decided to square up accounts, pay ever any balance in hand to a similar fund and disband. The Tennis Club were favoured with ideal weather pu Saturday for the opening of thto season. The members were present in force and entered heartily into games. Rev. K. J. McFarland in declaring the season open said he believed there was a bright future ahead, all that was necessary was that the members should be sports and play the game. He suggested that lists would be made out for the ladder competition and have it started right away. He trusted that on every Saturday the courts would be fully occupied and become a great factor in the social life of the town and district, A dainty afternoon ;,tea was dispensed by the ladies and play resumed.
