PUBLIC SERVICE CONFERENCE

Per Press Association. , Wellington. Oct. 34, The Conference of the Public Service Association was continued today. Among the remits adopted, were the following That the Public Service Association having become aware that an attempt is being made to introduce legislation to extend the terms under ..which public servanta may be granted a retiring allowance from the Superannuation Fud, and that such proposed amendment seriously restricts the right of the present contributors to the fund, and that it will affect the stability of the fund, it is the opinion of the Association that no such legislation should be introduced unless on the advice, and with the agreement of the Public Service Superannuation Board; that the Public Association is of opinion that any housing scheme forp üblic servants can be permanently effective only if the ownership’ of landand buildings is retained by an association of public servants and not by individuals comprising the Association. By this means only can values be maintained at a reasonable level and permanent benefit soeured.

The final business was the election of officers for the ensuing year, which resulted :—President, W. M, Wright; vice-presidents, J. H. Jeram and J. R. McLune; vice-presidents (ex-officio) 0. M. Hill, W. M. White, P. R. Webb, F. F. McKenize; hon, treasurer, B. L. Dallard; auditor, G. C. Smith. The following were elected to the executive committee as representatives for the various sections Wellington, W. H. Phillips and O. J. McOormisky; Auckland, J. K. Jerram; Sooth Auckland, R. Sinel; Wanganui and Palmerston North, F. F. Laurenson; Marlborough, A. Burgess; Coast, W. W. Cook; Canterbury, F. T. Sandford; Oiago, T. H. Sherwood; Southland, J. R. McLune.
