An important step towards the stabilisation of the situation in the Near East has been taken by the Bunreme Council, which has refused Romnania’a demand for both banks of the Marcs as far as Theiss ami control of the Arad-Batman railway. Ronmania has been informed that the settlement by which Koumania * gets the Transyivan iau province of 120,000 square kilometres of rich minerals is irrevocable. The Council has settled the vexed question of Banat by dividing it between Eouruania and Serbia. The latter gets.most of the district of Torontal and two-thirds of the waterways of Banat. Boumania receives the districts of Temes arid Grossverin, with the famous mine and steel works at Besaza and Anina.
