No self-respecting woman can go to bed without a nightdress; no girl with any consciousness of short skirts can appear in the street without stockings. Yet look at the prices—£4 for a nightdress; for a pair of stockings 37s (id —stockings liable doubtless to holes in the heels. Little wonder that the impoverished people crowd the picture shows and the Sunday harbor boats, and that they weekend in seaside shacks purchased out of their penury. Let them drown their sorrows ! At the other end of the scale of prices is the profiteer. Prom the evidence of nightdresses at £4 and stockings at 27s 6d one would infer that the profiteer keeps a draper’s shop.
