RETURNED SOLDIERS.
The Conference at Wellington yesterday resolved that five member associations bo established. These will be: (1) Auckland, as at present; (2) Wellington, as at present, less Gibsorue 05) Gisborne; (4) Canterbury; (o) Otago. The new member association would be Gisborne and this would include Gisobrne Association and all local associations in the district.
It was decided that the finding of the prvoious conference at -f'Anstchurch relative to pensions ■• • rescinded, and it be recommended that a schedule of pensions for .specific injuries under the War Pensions Act 1917,.and a second schedule the. ,r :o be regraded by the addition of pxus percentages up to 150 per cent, (that is £8 per- week), the total percentage to be a minimum pension for total disablement. Jt was also resolved that supplementary pensions and attendant’s allowances should be over and %bove the rate mentioned and dependant’s pension should be assured at the present rates. Mr Inder moved that a Pensions Appeal Board be set up to hear and determine appeals from decisions of the Pensions Board. The remit was carried. It was decided that the claim of a wife who had been refused a pension on account of her husband, who had been disabled, be submitted to legal opinion with a view of taking a test action to the Supreme Court to enforce payment of the pension. After the remainder of the report had been passed, a motion was carried unanimously expressing confidence in Mr Harper as the Association’s representative on the Pensions Board.
