At the Conference of the Public Service Association, among the remit adopted were the following:—That wiien appointments are made by the Commissioner, the name of tiie successful applicants shall be notified to all applicants for the position immediately the appointment is made; that all salaries and paid at least fortnightly, insteaa of monthly as at present. At the Public Service Conference the following additional.remits were passed:—That this conference disapproves of the total substitution of matriculation for the public service senior examination, and that the examination be sat for at the option of the candidate, that all officers who have passed the matriculation examination since the same was substituted for the public service senior examination be granted a double increment so that they may not be at a disadvantage with officers who have passed the Public Service Senior examination since that date, and have received double increment; that provision be made for taking the matriculation examination in sections; that payment of a lump sum of £ls be made to officers passing the matriculation examination; that the Public Service Commissioner be requested to provide that the application of any officer for promotion, special leave of , absence, transfer, increase in salarj - , or in respect of any other matter affecting his position in the service, may be made by the applicant himself to the Commissioner through the permanent head of his department; that whenever a confidential report is made on any officer, reflecting on his work or general conduct, such report shall be shown to the officer concerned, who shall, if he so desires, be alowed to make a copy thereof or take an extract therefrom.
