Mr Lloyd George, addressing representatives of agriculture at the Caxton Hall, urged still greater increase in the agricultural output. He said Government were determined to put agriculture on a satisfactory basis, continuing war time protection, and enabling industrious farmers confidently to invest capital. If Germany had pursued the British policy of neglecting agriculture it would have collapsed during the war within a year. We must not take the same chances again, as we came too near disaster, especially in 1917 under the submarine menace. During the war Britain had restored between three and four millions of acres to cultivation. Experts estimated that 150 milions worth of food now imported could be produced in Britain, thus enormously bene flting exchange.
