THE DEFENCE OF RIGA.
United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copy-right, Received Oct. 23, 9.30 a.m. Copenhagen, Oct. 21. The Germans continue gas shelling Riga. The Germans on Monduy fired on the British warships, which immediately replied, bombarding the German positions. The Germans four times vainly attempted to force a passage over the Dvina at Friedrickstadt. 55 miles distant from Riga. The British fleet off Fetrograd repeatedly shelled and bombed Krasnavagorika. Riga, Oct. 21. Bermondt’s aeroplanes dropped an ultimatum announcing that unless the defence of Riga is abandoned at midnight on Monday a bombardment of heavy artillery' will oe opened.
