TURAKINA NOTES.

From Oar Own Correspondent. A very successful concert was given in the hall on Friday evening hj- the members of the Loyal Temperance League. Children’s concerts are always popular and on this occasion the hall was crowded. Rev. J. Wilson presided and opened the meeting with prayer, after a hymn had been sung. The programme in eluded dialogues, action songs and recitations One of the best dialogues was that entitled “A Sick Baby,” in which the young people, dressed in appropriate costumes, did very well. Miss Annie Gibson showed a marvellous memory in her recitation and in a dialogue. Miss M. Leigh was encored for her song was sung very sweetly. A bright little chap,”JacE Goodall, was also heartily encored for his recitation. Recitations were given by Doris Major, May Webster, Dyson Kelly and a song by Leu Rink. All the items bore on Temperance work and teaching, and were on level of moral instruction. A brief address on Temperance work was given by Miss Powell, who has been a life worker in the cause. The programme closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Supper was then provided by the ladies of the W. L. T. U., but it was.really too big a task to supply supper for so large an audience. Before separating, Mr B. F. Lethbridge proposed a vote of thanks "to Mrs Wilson for her work in training the children for the concert. The takings at the door amounted to £5 13s. s. A sale of work, Turakiua, on Thursdaj’ afternoon in aid of Maori Missions.
