TAIHAPE NOTES

WINTER SHOW. From Our Own Correspondent. The annual Winter Show of the Rangltlkei A. and P. Association was held at Taihape on Wednesday aiid Thursday. On account of the snow and rain, the attendance was greatly below the average of former years. The season having been a phenomenally bad one for root crops, the display madex was anything but good. The poultry classes attracted keen competition, and the exhibits were exceptionally good. The following are the chief prize winners;—• Old English G ame: C. Hanks, Hamilton. English Leghorns: brown cockerel, J. R. Gunninghame, Taihape, 1 and 2; W. Biddick 8; white hen, E. Evans; brown hen, J. E. Gunninghame, American Leghorns: J. McKenzie, Taihape, four firsts, three seconds and one third; J. Ulrich, one first, one second and a third. Black Orpingtons: F. O. Barge, Whaugaroi, B. A. Fraser, Taihape, and G. Muler, Grey Lynn, one first, one second, and on 3 third each. White Opringtons: F O. Barge, Whangarei, four firsts and champion. Silver ' Wyandottes: J. E. Gunninghame, Taihape, four firsts and two seconds. Golden Wyaudottes: J. R. Gunninghame, four firsts, six seconds, and one third; T. B. Holdaway, Marton, three firsts and one third. Ehode Island Eed: T. B. Holdaway, two firsts; Eev. W. F. Stent, two firsts; W. J. Simpson, two firsts,;, J. R. Gunninghame. one first. In the Utility Glasses, the most successful exhibitors were; English Leghorns, H: L. Pratt, American ''Leghorns, J. McKenzie ‘ and G. E. Darvill; Black Orpingtons, B. A. Fraser; White Wyaudottes, T. B. Holdaway and J. R. Cunninghame; Rhode Island Rod, Rev. W. F. Stent; Selling Glasses, W. F. Stent. Special prizes and championship* were won by :.F. O. Barge, Whangarei, best bird in Show, best fancy pullet, best male Orpington, best female Orpington, and championship for Black Orpington; T. B. Holdaway, Marton, for Wyandottes, male Rhode Island Red and female Rhode Island Red; B. A, Fraser, Taihape, heavy utility, mala and female; J. Gunninghame,' male English Leglorn; C. Hanks, Hamilton, male jame; J. McKenize, Taihape, beet xtility pullet, American Leghorns, ind light utility pullets; E. Evans, 3 almerston North, female English jeghom; G. Church, Raukura, light itility male; J. H. Stodait, Opaea, >ost gobbler; D. Broome, Taihape, »est gander. Field Roots. —The following seared first awards: L. Fetzer, carets; Goldfinch and Go., R. Wilkie ud A. R. Fannin. lor mangel i rnrzels; A. Athy, Mrs A. Floyd, A. I. Fannin, Rangataua Timber Co., , Sto art and D. Broome, for wedes; Messrs R. Wilkie, L. Fitzer nd D. Broome were the most sucessful exhibitors of garden produce. There was keen competition in tho ome industries section, and Miss ,'v Beiliss was tho most successful shibitor, as she won first prizes in umerous classes and annexed the £5 s special trophy. In the arts and idustrial section, the most successil exhibitors were Miss L. Reichdt and Mrs T. Henderson. In the fruit classes Mrs T, Hender!ii, Mrs E. E. Laidley and Miss B. eichardt each secured a first award ir apples.
