RAILWAY WORKSHOPS DESTROYED

Per Press Association Tauranga, June 20. The Public Works railway workshops at Mount Mannganui were totally destroyed by fire. There was no means of fighting ‘the outbreak, and the building—wood and iron—was quickly destroyed, together with much valuable machinery. The outbreak appparently occurred in the viciniy of he boiler. The engineer was absent The value of the shop and machinery is not ascertainable, but most amount to several thousand sterling. The loss is bound to have an effect on the construction of fthis [portion of the East Coast railway.
