BOWLING.
ST. JOHN’S v. MARTON. Considerable interest was centred i on the return match, S,t. John’s v. Marton, played on the Marton green on Saturday under ideal weather conditions. The green was in excellent order, and playing very keen affected the play of St. John’s teams in the early part of the game. After tea, however, there was a marked improvement, the visitors having got the green, played with great zeal > On the whole I the play was good, but what happened on rink 7 is inexplicable. Miles, who on the 14th head was 14 up and looked a certainty, failed to register on the ten heads following, and finished the 25th head with 3 up. Galbraith secured a win by two points. Stafford’s team got away by scoring seven points en the first two neads and maintained the lead throughout. Cummins with 4 in advance on the Gth head went up to play with position 7 down. With his first he look too much green and went over the bank, and with a bowl left failed to improve the position. This gave St. John's a lead of 3 which they improved on till the 13th head, then lost five consecutive heads. On the 24th head the score stood 28 all. Cummins secured 4on the 25th head. H. Sutcliffe—Gordon was a wellcontested game. On the Sth head, 8 all, on 13th head, 13 all. On 17th head Gordon had a lend of four points, bat Sutcliffe finished with four points to thegooa, also making four deadheads. The members greatly appreciated the kindness of Mesdames Gorrie and Low in dispensing afternoon tea. Scores ST. JOHN’S. MARTON.
