Canterbury won the toss, and at the call of Hims had lost seven wickets for 271 (Jones 10, Wood 95, Brunsden 40. Thomaa 73, Gray 19 not ont, and Mcßweo 14 (not out). The Auckland bowlinl was weak. Woods played a very fine innings. Of the Auckland attack, Smith was in a class by hi®’ self.
