INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC COMMISSION
Per Press Association. Aucblauu, Feb 20 At the Epidemic ; Commission. Dr Russell, Port Health Officer, said there were no cases of pneumonic influenza on the Niagara when she arrived, Dr. De Clive Lowe expressed the opiuon that the pnenmouia cases were developed after the Niagara arrived. Colonel Andrew said the cases at Narrow Neck camp before the Niagara arrived were simple inflnenza. Alter her arrival fitly per cent were pneumonic cases. Dr Russell, speaking of tbe firemen's quarters ou the Niagara, said it was a wonder that men who were ill were alive at all if the disease was dreadfully contagious He would not have 'expected to find anyone occupying these quarters alive The stewards’ quarters were not quite so bad. Auckland, February 20. Before the Epidemic Commission to-day, Dr D. G. Russell, Port Health Officer for Auckland, said it was he who allowed the Niagara to berth, and he did not see what else he could do in view of the fact that he was certain his diagnosis of simple influenza was correct.
