ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION

FRENCH PREMIER SHOT AT. WOUNDED IN THE SHOULDER. Received Feb 20, noon. London, Feb 18 M. Clemaucean, the French Premier, on leaving his home in Paris this morning en route for the Conference, with Mr Balfour and Colonel House, -American representative, when entering his automobile a young man waiting outside fired several shots with a revolver. Only one struck the victim on the shoulder. The wound is not dangerous, though some anxiety is felt as to the effect of the shook, owing to M. Olemeaceau’s age. Six bullets struck the motor, smashing the glass, M. Clemeucean walked home after the shooting. The assailant was a’ man named Emile Oottin, aged eighteen. He is believed to be a Russian. He was arrested after getting * severe thrashing at the hands of the crowd. To-day’s conference is cancelled. THE FRENCH PREMEIK. EXPECTED OUT IN A FEW DAYS. Main Service. London, Feb 19. In the House of Commons, Mr Bonar Law stated that M. Olemenceau is in bed, but is expected to be up in a few days. A Paris message states that M. Clemencean grappled with his assailant after the shooting.
