THE GERMAN DEFEAT.
COMMENT OF AN AMERICAN PAPER
COMPLETENESS OF BRITISH 1 VICTORY New York, Sept. 4. The New York Times, comment ing on the British victory, says the importance of Haig’s must be estimated by the significance of the breakdown and the shattering of the Drocourt-Queant defence lined defending ®the railway and strategic centres of Doual and Cam brai. No official sophistry can distort the character of the defeat suffered by the German army. The condition of the German army now verges on demoralization. At no time during the war has it suffered such heavy losses in men and guns.
