The Morning Post’d headquarters’ correspondent says the Australians on Saturday night tried to advance between ;no Somme and Amiens road with a view to taking Proyart, hut machine gun lire was so heavy that the Australians did not attempt to proceed. They made a fresh attempt on Sunday night, hut the enemy had been reinforced, and fought strongly for two hours amid dugonG and trenches. Advance, therefore, was difficult and tedious, the Australians, crawling on their stomachs for the last thousand yrrds, pocketed nest after nest until the village v? as reached.
