Australian Steeples.—Cuffs 1, Jack Rice 2, Westendale 3. Fourteen starters, Hobgoblin made most of the running, with Cuffs, • Westendale, and Jack Rice in close attendance. Guffs led into the straight, and easily maintained his [advantage, winning easily by four lengths. Time 7.49 Jo, a world’s record. NOTES. Master r Strowan, Gang Awa’, Merry Lad, Kiltess and Lady Louisa have arrived at Riccarton. The tirstnamed pair look particularly well. For some time past Naupata has been unsound, and as be lias got through little work there is no chance of his being seen out in the Grand National Hurdle Race gThe Auckland ’chaser John Bunny, who raced unsuccessfully at some of the rceent Melbourne meetings, conld not be brought back by the lixst steamer. As a result of bis fall off Prenez Garde on Wednesday, F. Gray is now suffering from a broken collarbone. According to a Wellington authority Stryax is unlikely to be taken south for the Grand National meeting.
