MANGAWEKA NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. This the fourth anniversary of Britain’s declaration of war against Huuland by a big united service in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening. The Anglican Churcn was represented by Mr A. H. Gascoigne, and the Presbyterian by Rev. J. McCaw. There was a vary large congregati»n. and the proceedings all through were solemu and impressive Mr Gascoigne conducted the devotional exercises, and Rev. McCaw gave a spirited, and inspiring sermon, in which he traced the various' causes of the war, its many phases, the downfall of Russia, the rise of America, and the sure coming of victory for the Allies when “The war drum throbbed no longer, andltbe battle flags were furled lu the“ Parliament of Man, the Federation of the World.”

The address was a masterpiece in many ways, and numerous people who heard it will regret that space does not permit us giving a verbatim report of it. Rev. McCaw was the recipient of many congratulatory remarks. A hymn followed the sermou, after which Mr D. Munro, chairman of Maugaweka Towu Board, moved a resolution ot determination to continue the war to real victory. This was carried by tile unanimous singing of the National Anthem. The main part of the porceeds is to be devoted to tlio “Copper Trail” fund, only a small proportion btiug held back as the> ueucleus of the troop fund. ,j
