At Tirahiwi last the successful candidate in tiie Southern Maori election, in thakiug the electors for their support, said he would enter the House as an Independent Liberal and hoped that this fact would, not deter Sir James Carroll from extending the hand of friendship and giving him assistance. Sir James Carroll predicted there would be a general election in twelvemonths and pleaded that Uru should himself with -_the Liberal Party. To this course, however, both Uru and his supporters objected, Uru stating bo had first to learn whether it was from tire Reform, Liberal or Labour Party that the Southern Maoris could expect the fairest treatment.
