DAMAGE BY FIRE.
TWO CHRISTCHURCH OUTBREAKS.

A lire broke out early this morning in the premises of-the New Zealand Coffee and Spice Company, Durham street The outbreak occurred on the first floor, which was completely gutted, large quantities of smccs being destroyed. The efforts of the brig ides prevented the fire spreading to ttio ground floor, so all the company's stock of coffee was saved. The insurances are Stock, £3300 and.plaut £-100 in the Northern Office ; buildings, £9O0_ in the London and Lancashire Office, It is estimacd that the company's loss over stock is considerable, but the buildings are not damaged much.
Later in the morning a tiro occurred in a Mock of buildings in Manchester street, next to the Excelsior Hotel. Tho fire started in the b ick of a fruit shop occupied by Miss Garland, which was badly damaged, together with the first floor, hut tho brigade prevented the Jlro spreading. The shop was insured for £SOO in tho Union of Canton ■ Mice.
