MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING.

Per Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 28. In connection with rumours pub lislied in the Napier Daily Telegraph, suggesting that the Defence authorities propose to try Dr. Thacker by court-martial because of the charges he made at Tuesday’s meeting, inquiries were made by the Post to-day which show that the reports were wholly unfounded. The facts are:—

1. No application will be made to Defence headquarters for a courtmartial.

2. No question of holding a courtmartial lias ever been considered. 15. No court-martial is in contemplation. 4. No representative of the Defence Department was present at Dr. Thacker’s mooting with a view to listening. Regarding the list of published paragraphs it isp oiuted out that itdiscloses a very poor appreciation of military law. The fact is that thereis nothing to prevent one officer, senior or otherwise, from listening to what is said by another officer there. Therefore, there can be no court-martial in connection with an incident of which the Defence Department is unaware.
