The New Zealand soldiers from Germany who interned in Switzerland, spent much of their time at Dulmeu. Two attempts at escape failed. They say the Allied prisoners are brutally treated aiuU many of our men were starved at Duimen and were in a pitiful condition. There were three camps, each holding 000 men. g At Burgstcinfurt the prison consisted of underground dungeons in the sand. In winter they were awful and in summer ''they teemed with fleas. A New Zealander spent eight months in one camp. The German non-com. officers at this tjßinp treated the prisoners well, hut at Hohenfurst, a similar camp, it was hell upon earth. A New Zealander witnessed a Mannheim air raid, and though it failed, it had a considerable effect on the people.
