PRICE OF NEWSPAPERS.

INOEE ft SE IN AUCKLAND PROVINCE. TO START ON FEBRUARY 11th. A meeting of the newspaper proprietors of the Provincial District of Auckland was held on Friday to consider the serious position with regard to the supply and cost of p per. It was pointed out that the present landed cost was now 5300 percent. above pre-war rates, and that papers had reached such a position that the greater the circulation the greater the loss. After a full discussion of the situation it was unanimously agreed to increase the price to regular subscribers to 9d per week, single copies to casual readers to be 2d. The date fixed for the alteration in price of newspapers in the Auckland Province is Monday, February 11th. This increase in price has been inevitable in the Auckland Provincial District for some time past. It has been in operation in the rest of the North Island since the early part of last year.
