At Addiington "yards there was a double market in consequence of the Christmas holidays next week: Ihcro were large entries of fat lambs and fat cattle, and n small entry of sheep. The offerings of store sheep were moders te and there was a good demand for tho better classes of young sheep, especially wether and two-tooth owes. Fat I mibs sold well througout the market, rising towards tho close. The supply of fat sheep was short, of requirements, and there was a marked advance in prices, especially for ewes, at the end of tho s ! do. Pigs sold well porkers being dearer than at any sale during tho year. The demand for store cattle was for forward sorts that will fatten off before the winter, younger stock not being much in demand. At Burnside yards 194 tat cattle were penned. They were principally of good quality. Prices were fairly good, but on the w’hole a drop of 10s to 15s per head from last week’s rates w T as recorded. Extra heavy bullocks, £2G 10s, prime £lB 10s to £2O, medium weight, good quality £l7 to £l9, lighter £ls 0s to £IG 10s, extra prime heavy heifers £2O ss, prime cows and heifers £!5 to £l7 ss, medium weights £l2 2s 6d to £l4 10s. The number of sheep penned was 2194, the bulk of tnem being shorn owes and wethers. Prices wore a shade firmer. Prime heavy woolly wethers 55s 3d, extra prime shorn wethers 50s Gd to 525, prime 40s to 47s 9d medium weight and quality 32s to 395, lower grades 28s to 30s, prime shorn ewes 38s to 395, medium 30s to 86s, old owes 23s upwards. There were 1329 lambs penned. With the exception of a few pens the quality was not up to Christmas standard. Considering the quality the prices were beyond anything yet seen at Burnside.
