THE BALLOT LISTS.

Second Division ballot lists have to be very thoroughly revised before the military authorities can secure any guarantee that when they call for, say live thousand names, that all those men well be eligible for .service in the class iu which they appear. The last ballot produced five hundred appeals from men who proved that they had been ■wrongly classed, and so general is this fault —due to neglect to provide the Government. Statistician with up-to-date ■information regarding children—that a special poster is to bo circulated throughout New Zealand calling attention to reservists’ duty to notify all changes which will affect his classification. Class A of the Second Division commenced with 20,000, but re-classifi-cation pulled this clown to 15,000, out of which 3609 names remain to be gazetted on January 9th. As the whole roll of Second Division reservists has just been completed, it is possible to give the actual categories remaining to bo called up. Thev arc as follows: — Class B 21,762 Class O 20,395 Class D 19,025 Class E 11,654 Class F 12,861 These figures are liable to variation according to the changed circumstances of reservists. They show exactly what the country has left to call upon for military service, in addition lo the youths who are reaching military age, numbering- between eight and nine thousand per annum.
