MOTOR ACCIDENTS AT BULLS.

A nasty Occident occurred near Bulls yesterday afternoon. Mr George E. Hatherly, on a Big X motor c>cle, was travelling towards Palmerston at a high rate of speed, and when going down the steep hill between Bulls and the Eangitikex bridge the machine got out of control, wobbled some chains, and came down heavily with its rider. .Fortunately the accident was witnessed and Constable Wilson, with Mr Hosking and his car, were soon on the scene, and convoyed Mr Hatherly, who w~s in a semi-conscious condition, bleeding profusely from severe injuries to his he«d, to Dr. Watson’s surgery for medical attention. Later on in the evening the injured man was removed to the Wanganui Hospital, where it is learned that he is progressing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. Mr Hatherly, who is a returned soldier, was acting es collector for the Wellington Boys’ Institute, and is a brother of Mr Hatherly, of Marton. Another, but less serious accident, happened at the Bank corner in Bulls late on Saturday night, when an “Indian” mot6r cycle tried conclusions with a well-known “Austin” car, and, as might be expected, came off second best. The car struck the roar of the cycle as it crossed its path, knocking it over and causing the rider, Mr W. M. Donnell, to loop the loop in a sensational manner, and fall some yards away from his machine. Luckily he escaped with a severe shaking, and his mount was also little the worse for the encounter. This is the second motor eccident at this spot within tiio month, and it will soon be necessary to have a guardian of the law stationed permanently at the corner to regulate the traffic, another evidence of the growth and prosperity of Bulls.
